Indian politician hospitalized after he drank water from a river to prove to the masses that it is “clean”
In a widely-viewed video, the Chief Minister is seen scooping up a glass of water from a river and drinking it amid cheers from supporters.
It was reported that the mayor drank the water, which is usually contaminated with sewage waste from neighboring towns and villages, to prove to residents that it was clean.
However, viral reports alleged that the CM suffered a perceived stomach infection shortly after and has been hospitalized.
Ashok Swain, a professor of peace and conflict research in India, tweeted a video of a politician scooping water from the river and drinking it to prove that the water was clean. Swain wrote, “Punjab Chief Minister openly drinks a glass of polluted water from a ‘holy river’ to prove that water is clean. Now admitted to hospital.”
